April’s Entry 🗝️

Date: April 5th, 2025

Weather: Crisp, but finally warming. The kind of day where the earth smells fresh, like it’s waking up.

I spent the morning clearing out the garden, same as every spring. The ground’s still damp from last night’s rain, but the air feels lighter—like the season’s ready to turn over a new leaf. The kids were playing somewhere nearby, their laughter floating in and out of the quiet hum of the garden.

I don’t know what made me stop. Just a feeling.

Something about the way the soil settled near the roots of the old oak, like it had been disturbed before. I reached down, fingers threading through the damp earth, and—there it was.

A key.

It’s old. Heavy. Worn in places where hands must have held it before. The metal’s cool even against my dirt-warmed fingers, like it hasn’t seen the sun in a long, long time.

“Dad?”

I hadn’t realized how long I’d been staring at it until I saw the kids had gathered around me. I turned the key over once more in my palm before meeting their curious eyes.

I don’t know why, but something tells me this isn’t just any key.

And something else tells me… it was meant to be found.
